The mighty Sepik River, 1100 kilometres in length and up to 1.5 kilometres wide, is the Amazon of Papua New Guinea. For centuries it has been a natural highway for the Sepik people, now it's incredible art, wet lands, legends and people lure the explorer, the naturalists and art collectors to travel along it's watery pathway.
The mangrove swamps, flat lowlands silhouetted by Alexander Mountains and Hustein Ranges makes this area a wonderful wilderness rich with plant, bird and animal life.

The intense spiritualism of the Sepik people is embedded in their daily lives; legends are depicted on cooking pots and stools; canoe prows are carefully carved with the crocodile totem. At the centre of the Sepik culture is the grand Spirit House, where men congregate to discuss village business, pass on secrets, stories and songs, and where scared objects, ancestor skills, mask, musical instruments are hidden from the eyes and ears of the women folk.
The Sepik is still an anthropologist dream, each clan with its own unique artwork, spirit masks, spiritual figures and legends.
