The Island Groups

Trobriand Girl
The Islands are truly the best kept secret of Papua New Guinea, where-else in the world will you see a Melanesian culture that has had no encroachment upon its environment.

A visit to these islands is to be captivated by one of the most enchanting areas of Papua New Guinea.  This idyllic paradise of thatched huts, white coral beaches and towering atolls, is home to a people whose rich cultural heritage of magic still influences their daily existence.

Visit small villages and islands where the people perform ancient and revered rituals to celebrate everything from birth, marriage, death, the launching of a new 'Kula Canoe' to the harvesting of the Yam, all keys to their existence.

Each island is special in it's own unique way; Ferguson Island with it's thermal springs; mountainous Goodenough Island with it's spectacular scenery and peaks, topping 2400 metres; the tiny, fertile island of Dobu where sorcery is still practised; and not forgetting the charming low-lying coral islands of the notoriously famous Trobriand Islands, with their woodcarvings of exquisite quality, captivating dance and musing, totally unlike anywhere else in Papua New Guinea.
