Rabaul - destroyed by volcanic eruption in 1994

Rabaul was the scene of heavy fighting during WWII, and war wrecks litter the land, and the hillsides are honeycombed with tunnels and caverns built by the Japanese. Also situated within easy distance from Rabaul is the Australian War Cemetery. For the War history buff, Rabaul is a wonderful place to visit.
